Taking Care of Your Car During the Winter

Winter is the time of year where many people don't service their car as often as they should. The fact is, the cold winter months are the time where you should be paying most attention to your automobile. Much like winterizing your home, there are things you should do to winterize your car. Below are a handful of things you should do to prepare your car for the winter months.

Replace your wiper blades

There is nothing worse than not being able to see because of faulty wiper blades only to need to change them in the middle of a snow storm or freezing temperatures. It's wise to replace your wipers before it gets too cold so that you are able to see clearly and you can avoid having to do this simple task in harsh temperatures.

Check your antifreeze

The antifreeze, or coolant, in your car is vital for helping keep the water in your radiator from freezing during the winter, or boiling during the summer. Check your antifreeze before the temperatures get too cold to ensure your car will be operating optimally.

Check your washer fluid

Your windshield is the one area many drivers ignore until it's too late. As you replace your wiper blades, be sure you have enough washer fluid. Snow and salt from the roads often means you will use your fluid more often.

Inspect your tires

Your tires are one of the most critical parts of your car. After all, they support the entire weight of your car. Check the tire pressure of each tire. Your owners manual will provide the recommended tire pressure for your car. Following the steps listed above is a great start when looking to prepare your car for the cold winter months. Stop in and see a car care professional for additional tips to ensure you won't be left stranded in the cold with a car that has failed on you.
