Congratulations to Fulham F.C


May I congratulate Fulham Football Club on their success in the UEFA Europa Cup tonight.

Their achievement in reaching a first European Final in their 131 year history is without doubt a 'fairytale' that has come to fruition.
Fulham are a traditional family club, built on good old fashioned principles including a strong work ethic, and the ability to operate financially within their means.

The masterstroke was the appointment of Roy Hodgson (below left) as manager in December 2007.

By employing such an experienced and astute manager in Hodgson they have allowed him to assemble and mould together a group of players (with no superstars), and install into them genuine self-belief and a magnificent team spirit, combined with a never say die attitude on the field.

Despite often being overshadowed by their affluent West London rivals Chelsea, they have achieved a milestone tonight I suspect even their own fans could only ever have dreamed of - a European Cup Final !

After an epic campaign, which began way back on the 30th July last year with a third-qualifying round tie against FK Vetra of Lithuania, The Cottagers' run has spanned a total of 18 European ties, in which they have overcome the likes of Italian giants Juventus, German Champions Wolfsburg, current Europa Cup holders Shakhtar Donetsk and last night Hamburg.

Their success has been the only shining light on what one can only describe as a poor season for our domestic clubs in Europe, with the 'Big Guns' failing to get beyond the semi-finals of either European competition this season.

The UEFA Europa Final will be staged in Hamburg at the HSH Nordbank Arena on the 12th May 2010, where Fulham will play Atletico Madrid for the trophy.

I am sure every football fan up and down the country wish Fulham the best of luck in Germany next month.

May I say your Club is a credit to the English game.

Mercedes-Benz, First Quarter 2010 Sales Dominance



Mercedes-Benz has established itself as a premium brand leaders in Indonesia. Until March 2010 PT Mercedes-Benz Indonesia managed to master the retail sales of premium passenger car segment by 68 percent to 847 units.

Total retail sales for the month of March increased 44 percent over the same period last year, which reached 590 units. With the achievement of these sales, the Mercedes-Benz has closed the first quarter of calendar 2010 with honors.

The latest safety issues come as Toyota is trying to repair its image for quality and reliability in the United States following massive recalls, congressional and regulatory investigations, and a flood of new lawsuits.

Toyota shares fell less than 1 percent on Friday in New York to $79.37.

Toyota halted U.S. sales of the 2010 Lexus GX 460 luxury SUV on Tuesday and stopped production overall after Consumer Reports warned of a rollover risk and issued a rare warning advising consumers not to buy it.

Road handling tests by the magazine published by Consumers Union found that vehicle's rear end could slide out in a tight turn.

Lexus spokesman Bill Kwong said in a statement that "our engineers in Japan replicated the driving procedure and have duplicated the Consumer Reports result."

Toyota was "evaluating potential remedies" and it was too early to determine the timing of any repairs, Kwong said.

He added that sales will remain suspended until the company is confident the issue is resolved.

David Strickland, administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said on Thursday the agency would conduct its own tests on the Lexus used by Consumer Reports and on others of the same model.

Strickland applauded Toyota's handling of the warning on the Lexus SUV, which is a departure from the stiff criticism from regulators and lawmakers over how the company managed recent recalls.

Toyota recalled more than 6 million cars and trucks in the United States across its product line in October 2009 and in January for unintended acceleration linked to the "sticky pedal" problem and for floor mats that can trap the accelerator.

NHTSA engineers are in the midst of another review to address lingering questions about whether there are possible software or other electronic glitches in Toyota throttles and whether they could be behind consumer complaints of unintended acceleration.

U.S. safety investigators have never found any problems with the Toyota throttle systems, but lawmakers, safety advocates and others have questioned whether investigations over the years were thorough enough.

Preliminary work by Toyota engineering consultant Exponent (EXPO.O) showed no problems with the throttles, Toyota has said. The automaker has also said its internal reviews over the years have found that the system is sound.

Congress wants more answers, however.

In a letters on Friday to Toyota's Lentz and Exponent officials, Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Bart Stupak sought contracts, correspondence, reports and analysis related to Exponent's work for Toyota.

Toyota said in a statement it is "more than willing to meet with the committee and discuss" electronic throttle testing and steps to improve quality assurance.

Waxman and Stupak took issue with Toyota's conclusion in March that it had rigorously examined its throttle systems and found no problems.

Allison Stokke, born 22nd March 1989 in Norwalk, California is an American pole vaulter. She vaulted to stardom thanks mainly to her looks, rather than her natural pole vaulting ability. However in 2004 Stokke did win a California State Championship, and broke several national records in her age division. As a senior at Newport Harbor High School, she set the second best mark in the nation for that calender year with a 13' 7" vault. In the CIF State Championship Finals she finished fourth.
Stokke's rose to 'Internet Fame' when a picture of her aged 17 at a track meet was posted on the internet. Soon more pictures would surface, millions of new fans emerged, and this future California Bear Field Star, would find unexpected, and unwanted fame as one of the few internet stars to have kept their clothes on.

Daniela HantuchovĂ¡, born 23rd April 1983 in Poprad, Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia) is a Slovak professional tennis player.

She has won two other WTA singles tournaments and been runner-up in a further seven tournaments so far in her career. She is currently ranked Number 24 in the world.

Unit 1850 Honda Acura Recall ZDX

Now football is without doubt a game of opinions, and you may consider the players I have selected as not worthy of their place in my greatest team, or feel I have missed out players who you would deem as more laudable of selection, which I fully appreciate.

This was not as tricky an exercise as I had initially thought, as so few players are the cream in all the fundamental categories deemed in my selection process.

The criteria for which I based my miscellany on was as follows:

* No pre-war players (footballer was a cruder game back then & the competition was less fierce)
* Great technical ability
* Sustained excellence over a number of years
* An ability to inspire others
* Fervour for battle

There are 12 Europeans and 4 South Americans, and they all satisfy the criteria in abundance.

Four of them played in the 1950's, seven started in the 1960's, two in the 1970's, two in the 1980's and one in the 1990's.
No one country is represented by more than two players.

There is just so much get-up-and-go with this diesel. VW's direct-injection, turbocharged unit really is state of the art in modest-sized diesels.

Consider what the competition offers. The Hyundai Elantra Touring ($22,899 for a loaded GLS Sport with automatic transmission) has a gasoline-fed inline four-banger rated at 138 hp/136 lb-ft. Believe me, the Golf TDI is a much livelier performer.

Another potential rival is Subaru's Impreza five-door. Consider the Impreza 2.5i with the Sport Package and automatic transmission at $26,695. Its four-cylinder comes in at 170 hp/170 lb-ft. Again, the Golf diesel is far stronger in the torque department, which gives the VW a more robust feel both in traffic and on the highway, where at speed the engine is turning over well below 2,000 rpm.

That's the performance story and it's a good one. And safety? There is a full array of airbags – front, side and overhead curtain – along with stability control, electronic brake force distribution (to maximize braking effectiveness) and a robust safety cage. Yes, the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates the Golf a Top Safety Pick.

As for the cabin, it's not overly big, but adequate for four adults, two front, two back. The Golf wagon has a bit less head and leg room than the Elantra Touring and the Impreza, but it's not a huge difference. On the other hand, the Golf wagon has 960 litres of cargo room, considerably more than these other two (689 L for the Elantra, 538 L for the Impreza).

What really sets the Golf apart – and dramatically so – is the VW's seating. These seats are brilliant. VW somehow manages to provide firm but not bench-like cushioning. Even the cloth upholstery is attractive.

Moreover, the driver's seat offers good thigh support and is height-adjustable. But changing the angle of the seatback requires an awkward reach back to turn a knob. If you are heavy, older, arthritic or just ornery, this system is really, really irritating. VW will tell you that the knob allows minute adjustments that are impossible on most cars with easy-to-reach levers. But that does not make the knob any easier to reach.

The dashboard layout is also very simple and effective. The gauges pop out with clarity and various controls are wonderfully intuitive. An auxiliary jack for your MP3 player is standard, as is the eight-speaker sound in this model. What's missing is storage space; there just isn't enough of it for your odds and sods. Worse, smallish cup holders are very irritating for caffeine addicts who go big or go to sleep.

What might be troubling for some buyers is VW's reliability. It's been an issue for years, if you believe some of the research. The auto maker was rated third to last in J. D. Power & Associates' 2010 Vehicle Dependability Study, which looked at how 2007 models had held up. At least VW improved from second to last in 2009.

On the other hand, Consumer Reports magazine says the Golf wagon's reliability is average and recommends it. In fact, the Golf wagon is CR's highest-rated small hatchback/wagon. If nothing else, the Golf comes with a four-year/80,000-km, bumper-to-bumper warranty.

VW really went to town in remaking the Golf and that is surely the biggest reason why buyers are jumping aboard. This Golf wagon, meanwhile, the diesel version with the best transmission, is powerful yet fuel efficient; practical, yet (relatively) fun to drive; comfortable yet not the roomiest in its class for passengers; and safe yet hardly dull.

There is a charm here, and the price is reasonable, too. It's a combination that sells.
