2012 Cadillac ATS Compact Luxury sedan

The small Cadillac will begin production next summer at Lansing Grand River, the same Michigan assembly plant that builds the award-winning midsize Cadillac CTS sedan, coupe, and wagon.

"The car we codenamed ATS is being developed to be a driver’s car on an all-new Cadillac-specific RWD-AWD architecture," General Motors North America President Mark Reuse said. The Cadillac ATS Compact Luxury Sedan will be launched in 2012.

Following months of rumors and spy shots, General Motors has released the first teaser image of its upcoming Cadillac ATS sedan.

The ATS’ design is clearly inspired by the CTS sedan, highlighted by crisp lines and bulging wheel arches. XTS-like fog light opens also look to be a part of the ATS’s front-end treatment.

Like the larger CTS, the Cadillac ATS will be available in sedan; coupe and wagon body styles, although the Euro-rival will also be available as a convertible.

The entry-level Cadillac ATS is slated to come equipped with a 270 horsepower version of GM’s turbocharged 2.0L engine, backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to those eight cogs, the 2.0 ATS should return 22/32mpg.

All ATS models will be assembled at the automaker’s Lansing, Michigan, assembly plant.

Cadillac is moving forward with the often-teased ATS, a model slated for a 2012 debut and aimed straight at the Infiniti G37, Mercedes C-Class and other German and Japanese competitors in the entry-premium segment.

"We're finalizing the four-door show car of the ATS first," a well-placed source told Inside Line. The source said Cadillac is currently "not too sure about the compromises of a folding hardtop."

2011 Cadillac Escalade ESV Review

2011 Cadillac Escalade ESV comes standard with 18-inch wheels, an adaptive suspension, automatic xenon headlamps, power-folding and driver auto-dimming mirrors, rear parking sensors, fog lamps and a power tailgate.

Every Cadillac Escalade ESV is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 generating 403 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque.

The 2011 Cadillac Escalade ESV is the largest model within the Escalade family of luxury SUVs, offering the most space for passengers and cargo. The Escalade ESV is indeed all these things.

Sharing much of its DNA with the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL, the Escalade ESV is 21 inches longer than a standard Escalade, seats up to eight and is able to haul up to 137 cubic feet of cargo with the second-row seats folded and the third row removed. Of course, the Cadillac Escalade ESV costs more than its brethren, too.

The 2011 Cadillac Escalade ESV is an extended-length full-size SUV offered in four trim levels: base, Luxury, Premium and Platinum Edition.

The base-model ESV comes standard with 18-inch wheels, an adaptive suspension, automatic xenon headlamps, power-folding and driver auto-dimming mirrors, rear parking sensors, fog lamps and a power tailgate. Inside, it has leather upholstery, 10-way power front seats with heating, ventilation and driver memory settings, power-adjustable pedals, power tilt-only steering wheel, heated second-row seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, remote ignition, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, a navigation system, real-time traffic, On Star, and a 10-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system with a CD/DVD changer, satellite radio and an iPod/USB audio interface.

The Luxury trim adds 22-inch wheels, the more advanced Magnetic Ride Control suspension (optional on base), automatic high beams, a blind-spot warning system, a sunroof, a heated steering wheel and power second-row seat release. Next up, the Premium trim adds power-retractable assist steps and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with pull-down screens for the second and third rows (optional on Luxury). A second-row 60/40-split bench seat (eight-passenger seating) is available on all models except the Platinum Edition.

Every Cadillac Escalade ESV is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 generating 403 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque. When properly equipped, the ESV can tow 8,000 pounds.

The 2011 Cadillac Escalade ESV includes standard antilock disc brakes, stability control, traction control, front side-impact airbags and full-length head curtain side-impact airbags with rollover protection. All Cadillac Escalade ESV trim levels except the base model also feature a blind-spot warning system.

The Cadillac Escalade ESV can accommodate seven or eight occupants, depending on the second-row configuration of either bucket seats or optional bench seating. A power fold-and-flip feature for the second-row seats eases access to the third row. With the rear seat sections folded and removed, the Cadillac Escalade ESV offers a cavernous, class-leading 137 cubic feet of maximum cargo space.

While the Cadillac Escalade is a traditional, body-on-frame truck, it's tough to beat for passenger space. Thanks to such a wide cabin, the Escalade has excellent interior space, with lots of elbow and shoulder room.

The 2011 Cadillac Escalade ESV is about 20 inches longer than the standard-length Escalade models, with most of its 14-inch-longer wheelbase going to legroom for the second and third rows, along with slightly easier access to the third row. There's a bit more cargo space behind that third row, too.

2011 Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon

As with the CTS-V Coupe, everything forward of the A-pillars was lifted straight from the CTS-V Sedan and mated to the Cadillac Sport Wagon's body. The CTS-V Sport Wagon is endowed as expected with Cadillac's wicked 556-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 that makes 551 pound-feet of torque.

An independent front and rear suspension keep the CTS-V Sport Wagon in tune with the tarmac, in concert with Cadillac's Magnetorheological adjustable shocks. Black trim and power Recaro sport seats pump up the interior of the CTS-V Sport Wagon the same way they amp up the other CTS-V variants.

Pricing hasn't been announced, but the standard CTS Sport Wagon commands a $3,100 premium over the CTS Sedan, so a similar premium is expected over the CTS-V Sedan's $64,145 starting price.

Like the other CTS-V models, the Sport Wagon is not without its foibles -- its standard seats leave much to be desired in terms of comfort and support -- but for car enthusiasts who get it, the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon could be the only car they ever really need.

The CTS-V's standard Magnetic Ride Control suspension offers a good balance between ride quality and handling via driver-selectable Tour or Sport modes.

The 2011 Escalade Hybrid is a full-sized luxury SUV that seats eight and is offered in two trim levels.

The Escalade Hybrid has a classic "Cadillac interior" with leather upholstery, a navigation system, memory driver’s seat, and rear seat video entertainment. Front seats are heated, ventilated and power-adjusted. As would be expected, the hybrid scored well above others in its class in fuel economy.

On the pro side, the "2011 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid" has well-designed controls, and plenty of passenger room, both for the legs and head, along with ample cargo space. On the con side, the Escalade Hybrid is not very quiet, and the 22 inch wheels and high vehicle weight limit the ride quality.

The hybrid provides Cadillac luxury but with fuel economy and a respectable price tag. As a value within its class of large SUVs, the 2011 Escalade Hybrid was rated by Consumer Guide at 7 compared to a class average of 5.4.

So it's a little ironic that the Escalade Hybrid even exists.
It's also surprising that Cadillac has done little to distinguish (or tone down) the "2011 Escalade Hybrid"; other than the fist-sized chrome Hybrid badge on the fender vents, there's little to call this model out from a distance.

The "Escalade Hybrid drives", remarkably, much like the standard "Cadillac Escalade models". In the Hybrid, controls and displays are pretty much the same as those in the standard "2011 Escalade models"—except with different trip computer displays. Just as with the other Escalade models, the 2011 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid is offered in a top Platinum Edition model that includes items like heated and cooled cupholders, backseat DVD entertainment, and an upgraded interior, and even base models include tri-zone climate control, power-adjustable pedals, power running boards, and a powerful Bose sound system.

Not many of the green cars are truly deserved in SUV hybrids, but the Escalade Hybrid has actually tried hard to manage with great fuel economy. The "Escalade Hybrid" is strong application, if you are looking for commuter SUV that offers luxurious and comfortable rides.

The 2011 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon balances the sporty dynamics of the CTS sedan with the utility of a luxury station wagon. In terms of performance, the CTS Sport Wagon reigns supreme among luxury wagons. The CTS Sport Wagon features two powerful engine options, a 270-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 and 304-horsepower 3.6-liter V6. Rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual are standard with both, while a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive are available separately. In performance testing, a 3.6 rear-drive Sport Wagon went from zero to 60 mph in 7.0 seconds.

Safety
The CTS's standard safety features include antilock disc brakes, traction control, stability control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and GM's OnStar emergency communications system.
In government crash testing, the 2011 Cadillac CTS was awarded a perfect five stars for side protection.

Interior Design and Special Features
Cargo capacity is obviously important with a wagon, and the CTS provides a generous 25 cubic feet with the rear seats raised and 53.4 cubic feet with them lowered.

Driving Impressions
On the road, the 2011 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon is very stable and copes well with quick directional changes. That said, the CTS lacks the dexterity of smaller cars like the Audi A4 Avant and BMW 3 Series.

Because of the wagon's sedan roots, it actually rides on the same 113.4-inch wheelbase as the sedan. However, despite having a larger rear cargo area, the wagon actually measures in 0.3 inches shorter than the CTS sedan.

New optional 19 inch wheels round out the CTS Sport Wagon's exterior appearance.
Inside, the Sport Wagon's interior mirrors the CTS sedan's, save for the extra cargo room aft of the rear seats. With the rear seats up, the wagon provides 25 cubic feet of cargo space, with that number expanding to 121.9 cubic feet when the rear seats folded away.

Classic Car History - The 1959 Cadillac Series 62

The 1959 Cadillac was the brainchild of Designer Harley Earl, who drew on the inspiration of American space travel and rockets for his design. The 59 Cadillac was the pinnacle of the American auto design excess. With tail fins that rose a full 42 inches off the ground, rocket flare tail lights, quad headlights and massive chrome bumpers, a body length of over 20 ft, this was the ultimate Cadillac for grabbing attention. The '59's outrageous fins are accentuated by its very low profile, which is 3 inches lower that the '58 model's already low profile.

Harley Earl was directly responsible for the design of 50 million vehicles and completely changed the face of the American automobile in the 1950's. No single man has had such an impact on the shape of American auto design and no one man has been guilty of so many design excesses. Included in his space-themed design were other images such as chrome denture like grilles, dashboards that looked like they belonged to jet fighters with dozens of switches and controls, bumpers protrusions known as "Dagmars", hood ornaments which looked like missile launchers.

The 1959 Cadillac is an American icon. You will see this year model displayed in many 50's styled diners and restaurants. Hard Rock cafe always has either a 1959 or 1960 Cadillac displayed in their restaurants. The 59 also starred in many films, like in the Clint Eastwood movie "Pink Cadillac". The 59 Cadillac was a monument to American optimism in the 1950's; it was in fact the "American Dream". Who wouldn't love to drive one of these today? Today you will be hard pressed to find a restored 59 convertible for less that $70,000 with many of them selling for well over 100K.
