The New 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8
The big and bold 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 Inside, the SRT8 has heavily bolstered leather and suede sport seats, carbon-fiber trim on the instrument and door panels, and paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
Super-Sized Hemi
There is permanent 4-wheel drive (Quadra-Trac, in Jeep speak), a 5-speed automatic, and a tow rating of 5000 lb. If you’re really in a hurry while trailering those jet skis, Jeep says the SRT8 pulls 0.90g on the skidpad. What’s more, Jeep says the new 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the “best handling Jeep ever.”
Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. Massive 6-piston Brembo calipers (front) haul the SRT8 from down from 60 mph in only 116 ft.
We’ll find that out when the new 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 goes on sale in the fall.
The high-performance SRT8 took last year off while the regular Grand Cherokee was completely (and successfully) overhauled. Other upgrades include an SRT-tuned adaptive suspension, Brembo brakes, forged 20-inch wheels, steering wheel paddle shifters and special bodywork.
Offering 465 horsepower and 465 lb-ft. of torque, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is by far the most powerful Jeep ever offered. Top speed is limited to 155 mph.
Combined with a large gas tank, Jeep says the "Grand Cherokee SRT8" should be capable of a 450 mile range.
Inside, the Grand Cherokee SRT8 gains steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters to control the five-speed automatic transmission.
Jeep says it worked hard to further refine the "Grand Cherokee SRT8′s "handling by building on the all-new WK2 platform with a new Selec-Track traction-enhancing system. A single-speed transfer case sends power between the front and rear wheels. Uprated power steering and Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes help "the Grand Cherokee "maintain control. SRT’s Performance Pages trip computer functions remain, meaning the Grand Cherokee SRT8 can display performance figures like 0-60 time, 60-0 distance, g-forces and one eighth and quarter mile times.
